Why I keep a reading list in plain text

Tried three different apps for tracking what I'm reading. All of them added friction — tagging, ratings, sync conflicts. Went back to a single markdown file, one line per book, done reading gets a date appended.

The lesson: tools that ask for metadata up front rarely survive contact with actual habits. Add structure later, if at all.
